Government ministers in Finland will meet soon to discuss raising the budget for Finland’s Defense Forces Yle reported. The move comes amid heightened tensions with Russia over the invasion of Ukraine.
In the face of conventional, hybrid, and cyber threats from Russia, Finland’s Defence Forces have stepped up their preparations, although President Sauli Niinistö has said that Russia poses no immediate threat to Finland. Russia has threatened Finland over possible NATO membership.
In December Finland made the decision to purchase 64 F-35 Lockheed Martin fighter jets at a cost of 8.4 billion euros and any possible increase in defence expenditure will come on top of the F-35 costing.
