Russian tank manufacturer Uralvagonzavod has announced the successful conclusion of its tank delivery schedule to the Russian Armed Forces for 2024, marked by the final shipment of vehicles at the year’s end.
Throughout the year, the company executed two significant contracts with the Ministry of Defence, concentrating on the modernization of T-72 tanks to the T-72B3 standard and the manufacturing of T-90M “Proryv” tanks.
The most recent batch, as shown in a video released by the company, comprised at least four T-90M main battle tanks (MBT). These tanks are designed with enhanced protective features to defend against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Since the beginning of Russia’s extensive military operations in Ukraine, more than 100 modifications have been implemented on their tanks. These improvements include protective mesh to shield against drones, rubber armour, and reinforced safeguards for essential systems such as the drivetrain and suspension.
Furthermore, the upgraded tanks are fitted with technologies intended to minimize detection and sophisticated electronic warfare systems to combat UAVs. The precise number of tanks delivered has not been made public however analysts estimate that Uralvagonzavod provided around 280 MBTs to the Ministry of Defence in 2024, which includes approximately 200 modernized T-72B3s and between 60 and 80 newly manufactured T-90Ms.
