The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has issued a procurement order for 775 trucks from Scania and Volvo to facilitate the growth of the Swedish Armed Forces. The agreements, which are estimated to be worth around SEK 1.4 billion, also provide an option for an extra 575 vehicles, with deliveries anticipated between 2025 and 2026.
The current order for trucks represents both an expansion of previously supplied vehicles utilized by the Swedish Armed Forces in recent years and the introduction of new capabilities, including a 6×6 flatbed truck equipped with a canopy and tail lift. This order is being placed under an existing framework agreement, albeit through a renewed competitive process.
“It feels really good to be able to deliver these vehicles to the Armed Forces. Previous deliveries have been very well received by users and the collaboration with both Volvo and Scania is a success factor in this. The fact that we are now adding an additional 775 modern trucks to the Armed Forces means a strong increase in capability”, says Jonas Silfver Wikstrand, Section Manager, Heavy Wheeled Vehicles, FMV.
In the autumn, suppliers were requested to present their tenders in alignment with the stipulations outlined in the framework agreement and the specifications detailed in the new tender documents. Consequently, FMV is now procuring three categories of trucks from Scania and one category from Volvo. These trucks will be utilized by numerous units within the Swedish Armed Forces to facilitate the transportation of goods, loose load carriers, and vehicles.
The order will see Scania deliver 75 units of 6×6 box trucks, with an option to acquire an additional 75 units; 300 units of 4×4 flatbed trucks equipped with curtainsiders and tail lifts, with an option for an extra 200 units; 100 units of 6×6 flatbed trucks, with an option for an additional 100 units. While Volvo will deliver 300 units of 6×6 flatbed trucks featuring curtainsiders and tail lifts, with an option for an additional 200 units.
