Spain delivers more Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine

The Spanish Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced that it has dispatched a fresh shipment of weapons and military equipment to Ukraine. Among the items sent are 10 Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks (MBTs), which will help bolster the combat effectiveness of Ukrainian ground forces.

The Spanish MoD stated that the recent shipment of military equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine consists of not only Leopard 2A4 MBTs but also a significant quantity of anti-tank missiles.

The Ministry also confirmed that the Leopard 2A4 MBTs underwent maintenance and refurbishment by the Spanish industry before being transferred to Ukraine. This work was carried out at the Santa Bárbara Sistemas facility in Alcalá de Guadaira, which is a subsidiary of General Dynamics European Land Systems.

This marks the second delivery of Leopard 2A4 MBTs that Spain has provided to the Ukrainian army. The initial shipment consisted of ten tanks.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces have taken delivery of around 90 Leopard 2A4 MBTs since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Western governments have stated that the Ukrainian army is anticipated to receive several dozen more tanks in the coming months.
