Estonian Defence Forces take delivery of new tactical trucks from Volvo Defence

The Estonian Defence Forces have taken delivery of new 4×4 and 6×6 tactical trucks supplied by Volvo Defence, which will enhance mobility and enable fast and efficient movement even in difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions.

The Volvo 44R and 66R trucks are designed to navigate demanding terrains and adverse weather conditions, offering versatility for various applications such as the transportation of equipment and personnel. These vehicles incorporate advanced safety technologies that guarantee the safety of the driver and the dependability of the vehicle, even in challenging environments. Additionally, the trucks are fitted with contemporary driver assistance systems that comply with civil logistics standards, facilitating straightforward and economical maintenance.

In the coming year, the Estonian Defence Forces are expected to enhance their fleet with additional logistical and tactical trucks. Alongside Volvo Defence, Scania Estonia and Veho Estonia will also provide vehicles to the Estonian Defence Forces. The framework agreement concerning military vehicles will facilitate the procurement of vehicles not only for the Estonian Defence Forces but also for the Estonian Defence League, the Police and Border Guard Board, as well as affiliated agencies of the Latvian Ministry of Defence.

According to Erko Sepri, Category Manager for Vehicles, Technology and Logistics at the Estonian Defence Investment Centre (RKIK), the introduction of tactical trucks is an important step in improving the capabilities of the Estonian Defence Forces. “These trucks are a strategic investment that increases the mobility and operational readiness of the Defence Forces. The technology and technical reliability of the vehicles help ensure that our units are ready to perform their tasks in any situation,” Sepri emphasized.

Major Raigo Puusepp, head of the land engineering department at the Logistics Department of the Estonian Defence Forces General Staff stated: “Tactical trucks are important assets for combat units, both for transporting equipment and personnel, especially in our terrain, which often presents serious challenges. The tactical trucks in use today have already served for nearly 50 years and need to be replaced. The trucks being purchased will renew the vehicle fleet of important units, which will certainly increase not only the level of technical reliability, but also the morale of the units.”
