Ukraine begins licensed assembly of BREN 2 assault rifles

Ukraine’s state-owned Ukrainian Defence Industry (Ukroboronprom) announced that it has begun licensed assembly of Colt CZ BREN 2 assault rifles.

In July 2024, an agreement was signed between Ukroboronprom and Česká Zbrojovka, a subsidiary of Colt CZ (Czech Republic), for the assembly and the eventual complete manufacturing of NATO-standard assault rifles within Ukraine with the aim to equip the Ukrainian Armed Forces with a proven, high-quality standard NATO firearm, enhancing their operational capabilities.

“Partnership with Czech colleagues will help to improve the provision of the needs of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in reliable and modern small arms produced in our country. In addition, another step has been taken towards the integration of our defense-industrial complex into the industrial chains of NATO countries,” said Oleg Hulyak, Director General of Ukroboronprom.

The CZ BREN 2 is a modular rifle designed to meet NATO standards, ensuring extensive compatibility with the armed forces of other NATO member nations. This rifle is characterized by its durability, precision, and calibre adaptability, rendering it a highly versatile option for military and law enforcement agencies.

The CZ BREN 2 is currently in use by various organizations, including the Army of the Czech Republic, the French National Gendarmerie Intervention Group (GIGN), the Portuguese Army, the Polish Border Guard, the Romanian Gendarmerie, the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and numerous other professional entities across the globe.
