Sig Sauer announced that it has secured a second procurement contract with India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) to supply an additional 73,000 SIG716 assault rifles for the Indian Army.
The MoD initially contracted Sig Sauer for the supply of 72,400 SIG716 7.62×51 mm assault rifles. The successful deployment and significant acceptance by soldiers resulted in a subsequent contract for an additional 73,000 rifles.
In December 2023, the MoD announced that it intended to procure additional SIG716 assault rifles to strengthen the capabilities of soldiers stationed along the borders with China and Pakistan.
