Collins Aerospace to upgrade US Army Black Hawk avionics

Collins Aerospace, a division of RTX, has been awarded a USD 80 million contract to enhance the avionics systems of US Army Black Hawk helicopters as part of the H-60M MOSA Avionics Architecture Solution programme.

The upgrade will incorporate Mosarc, a range of Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA)-compliant products from Collins Aerospace, which will facilitate the integration of technology in a complex and swiftly changing battlefield environment. This will allow soldiers to efficiently update avionics technology in real-time.

Mosarc has been designed to enhance the efficiency of upgrades and ultimately lower sustainment expenses throughout the helicopter’s operational lifespan. By integrating Mosarc into Black Hawk helicopters, Collins Aerospace seeks to establish uniformity across the US Army’s existing and forthcoming fleet of both manned and unmanned aircraft.

“Mosarc will provide U.S. Army Black Hawk cockpits with an open systems architecture, enabling swift integration of new capabilities to keep pace with modern operational demands,” said Jenny Miller, vice president and general manager of Military Avionics and Helicopters at Collins Aerospace.

“Not only is the system’s interoperability vital for joint and coalition operations, but Mosarc will also allow the rapid deployment of technology to respond in quickly changing environments and help keep these aircraft relevant for decades to come.”

Collins Aerospace has stated that work on this contract will be conducted in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Huntsville, Alabama.
