US Army Special Operations orders additional MH-47G Block II Chinooks

US Army Special Operations Aviation Command (USASOAC) has awarded Boeing a USD 240 million contract to remanufacture five MH-47G Block II Chinook aircraft, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027.

The award comes after USASOAC secured four MH-47G Block II helicopters in 2024 and brings the total number of MH-47G Block II aircraft contracted by the US Army to 51. Boeing has stated that it expects to finalize the entire USASOAC Chinook fleet by early 2030.

The MH-47G Block II heavy-lift helicopter enhances the global operational capabilities of USASOAC. Featuring a strengthened airframe, reengineered fuel tanks, advanced avionics, and a design that facilitates future cost-effective modernization, this aircraft is set to remain operational for many years ahead.

“Supporting the needs of our special operators continues to be critically important,” said Heather McBryan, Cargo Programs vice president and program manager for Boeing Defense, Space & Security. “USASOAC has unique and complex mission requirements, so it’s vital we provide the enhanced capabilities of the MH-47G Block II as quickly as possible.”
