Sweden to procure additional Black Hawk helicopters

The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has signed a contract for the delivery of a further 12 Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters for the Swedish Air Force.

15 Black Hawks, known as Helikopter 16 in Swedish service, are already operating with the Swedish Air Force and deliveries of the new platforms are expected over the coming years.

The FMV stated that the contract is being facilitated by the United States Army under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme, which facilitates the sale of military equipment to other countries. The agreement was approved by the US Department of Defense in June, and deliveries to the Armed Forces will continue for several years.”

“The procurement of additional helicopters is in line with the Supreme Commander’s military advice to the government and the Defense Commission’s report on strengthening Sweden’s defense capabilities as an ally,” stated Michael Stolpen, Unit Chief at FMV.
