Indra and Rheinmetall Electronics have entered into a partnership to suggest enhancements to the Spanish Army’s Leopard 2E Combat System. This upgrade will integrate advanced technologies that align with forthcoming C4I solutions for future combat platforms.
Indra and Rheinmetall Electronics have collaborated to develop the Combat System, which encompasses both the Fire Control System and the C4I system, for all Spanish Leopard 2E main battle tanks (MBTs). Through a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), they are reinforcing their successful partnership in the production and maintenance of these fire control and C4I systems.
Rheinmetall Electronics, as the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the Leopard 2 fire control systems, facilitates flexible fleet management by providing a unified core system that can be tailored to meet specific customer requirements. Together, Indra and Rheinmetall deliver advanced solutions that are fully compatible with various Leopard 2 models, allowing users to operate from a common product base while also enabling the exchange of innovative enhancements throughout the system’s lifecycle.
Both Indra and Rheinmetall specialize in cutting-edge land systems and high-tech mission equipment, including C4I solutions tailored to military needs. Indra brings its expertise in the service and production of the “Combat System Leopard 2” and also develops its own electro-optics, battle management systems (BMS ET and Lince), and mission systems (Maestre) for platforms such as the Leopard 2E MBT, the Pizarro infantry fighting vehicle, and the VCR 8×8 wheeled armoured vehicle.
Rheinmetall is known for its modern, fully digitalized, and customizable defence electronics and software, featuring a modular and open architecture that supports innovative capabilities such as automated operations, seamless weapon integration, anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) compatibility, network integration, and both manned and unmanned operational modes. In response to evolving security needs, Spain and other NATO and EU member states are currently increasing their defence budgets to enhance the operational readiness of their combat vehicle fleets.
