BAE Systems announced on 14 January that it has been awarded an USD 85 million production contract by the US Navy to deliver additional Network Tactical Common Data Link (NTCDL) systems.
NTCDL facilitates the real-time transmission of voice, data, imagery, and full-motion video from diverse sources, including aerial, surface, subsurface, and portable systems. The systems associated with the company’s existing contract are currently being deployed on US Navy aircraft carriers and are set to be integrated into the new Constellation-class frigates.
NTCDL is a multi-platform solution for all US Navy Common Data Link (CDL) requirements and is a modular, scalable system designed to increase link capacity and embrace waveform evolution. NTCDL supports multiple, simultaneous, networked operations using currently fielded CDL equipment, as well as next-generation manned and unmanned platforms.
This system equips US Navy operators with the capability to concurrently transmit and receive real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) data from various sources, while also enabling the exchange of command and control information across distinct or independent networks. It aims to enhance data sharing, transfer, and distribution in real-time among military assets, including aircraft, ships, and unmanned vehicles.

This award modifies an existing BAE Systems contract to extend the programme’s total period of performance by three years and the company has stated that the work will be carried out at its facilities in Maryland, Colorado, New Jersey, and New York.
