The US State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Czech Republic of AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) along with related logistics and programme support.
The Czech Republic has requested to buy 200 AGM-114R Hellfire missiles, 4 Hellfire Captive Air Training Missiles (CATM) and 600 WGU-59A/B Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) II (single variant). Along with training and technical support, the estimated total cost is valued at around USD 138 million.
The weapon systems will be integrated with the Czech Air Force’s new fleet of 10 AH-1Z Viper helicopters which were purchased from the US.
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency stated that the proposed sale will improve the Czech Republic’s capability to strengthen its homeland defence and deter regional threats and will contribute to its military goals of updating capability while further enhancing interoperability with the United States and other allies. It added that the Czech Republic will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces.
