Elbit Systems Ltd has announced that it has been awarded an initial contract worth approximately $37 million to supply General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) with Iron Fist Active Protection Systems (APS) for upgrades to the US Army’s Bradley M2A4E1 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs).
The Iron Fist APS is an advanced Hard Kill system aimed at enhancing the self-defence capabilities of armoured platforms against modern battlefield threats. It is the Israel Defense Force’s Second-Generation APS and is characterized by high performance and low volume, weight and power requirements.
The system provides armoured platforms with 360-degree protection from a wide variety of anti-armour threats, such as Anti-Tank Rockets (ATR), Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM), UAS and Loitering threats, in both open terrain and complex urban environments.

The M2A4E1 is the latest iteration of the Bradley IFV, which offers enhanced survivability. Along with the Iron Fist APS, it is equipped with an improved High Definition Forward Looking Infrared Gunner’s Sight, and an Environmental Control Unit to prevent heat stress for dismounts. The US Army received funding to procure the M2A4E1 version for every Bradley IFV donated to Ukraine.
