Belgium orders Akeron missiles from MBDA

Belgian Defence Minister Ludivine Dedonder announced on Friday that the Belgian army has placed an order for 761 Akeron anti-tank guided missiles, manufactured by MBDA, to equip its future Jaguar combat vehicles.

The Akeron missile will eventually replace the Israeli-made Spike anti-tank guided missile, which the army will continue to use until at least 2030. The new missiles are expected to be phased in from 2026, with the first delivery anticipated in late 2025 or early 2026.

Additional deliveries are planned until 2028-2029, and the cost of the orders was not disclosed. The missiles will be used for the Jaguar armoured fighting vehicles, of which Belgium has purchased 60 from France as part of the Capacité Motorisée strategic partnership between the two countries.

Additionally, 382 Griffon light armoured vehicles have also been ordered under this programme.
